What is Electric Motor? | Different Types of Electric Motors
Types of electric motor is an electromechanical machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. In other words, the device that produces the rotational force is known as a motor. The operating principle of an electric motor mainly depends on the interaction between the magnetic field and the electric field. There are two main types of electric motors. AC motors convert alternating current into mechanical energy. It can be divided into three types. Induction motors, synchronous motors, and linear motors. The detailed description of the car is as follows.
1.1. Induction motor
Machines that do not operate at synchronous speeds are called asynchronous motors or induction motors. This motor uses the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction to convert electrical energy into mechanical energy. There are two types of induction motors, depending on the structure of the rotor. In other words, it is a squirrel induction motor and a phase winding induction motor. Squirrel-cage rotor: A motor consisting of a squirrel-cage rotor is known as a squirrel-cage induction motor. The cage rotor reduces hum and magnetic rotor locks.
Phase winding rotor: This rotor is also called a slip ring rotor, and motors that use this type of rotor are called phase winding rotors. In stages, induction motors are divided into two types. It is a single-phase induction motor and a three-phase induction motor.
Single-phase induction motor: A machine that uses the electromagnetic induction phenomenon to convert electricity from single-phase alternating current into mechanical energy is called a single-phase induction motor.
Three-phase induction motor: An electric motor that converts three-phase AC into mechanical energy, and this type of motor is known as a three-phase induction motor.
2.2. Linear motor
Motors that generate linear forces instead of rotational forces are known as linear motors. This motor has a round rotor and stator. This type of car is used for sliding gates and drives. 3. Synchronous motor
A machine that converts alternating current into mechanical power at the desired frequency is known as a synchronous motor. In a synchronous motor, the speed of the motor is synchronized with the frequency of the supply current.
Synchronous speed is measured with respect to the rotation of the magnetic field and depends on the frequency and poles of the motor. Synchronous motors can be divided into two types: reluctance motors and hysteresis motors.
Reluctance motors: Motors that have a starting process similar to induction motors and that act like synchronous motors are called countermotors.
Hysteresis Motor: Hysteresis motor is a type of synchronous motor with a uniform air gap and no DC excitation system. In-vehicle coupling is caused by in-vehicle hysteresis and eddy currents.
